Fellow Cyclists, A number of motorists have contacted the City Council of Oklahoma City and complained about the new Bike Route signage that OKC recently began installing along more than 200 miles of designated bike routes. Several members of the City Council are considering taking the signs down.
These Council members need to hear about your appreciation of the signs.
They need to hear from you now and in large numbers – especially in
light of the multiple recent deaths of cyclists – struck by motorists
who violated their rights to the road. Most important – be positive,
supportive and appreciative. These elected officials need to know we
have their backs.
You may have heard or seen on television that a motorist destroyed multiple bike route signs in Northwest OKC less than a week after the signs were installed. Unless your voice is heard “loud and clear” irate motorists will take another step in denying and removing our rights to the road. Time is critical…do not delay. Also contact every cyclist, family member and friend who might be willing to help in this effort. Forward this information to everyone you know who might help spread the word. Cyclists by law, have the right to use the full lane to remain safe. The fact that some motorists are outraged by these “instructive and educational” signs shows their ignorance of and/or disregard for our rights. Don’t let a very vocal minority of motorists take away our rights to safe cycling. Take a stand and let our elected members of government know how we feel. A single cyclist has virtually no power… A United Voice Will be Heard!

Thanks for your support of safe cycling, |
